4-WAY W/ GAVIN TURK

Project Details

4-H with Gavin Turk.

4-H Is an intriguing piece of work created in collaboration with (YBA artist) Gavin Turk and was funded by Arts Council England.

It celebrates the joy of riding a bicycle while highlighting the need for more thoughtful, sustainable and pleasurable ways to travel inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s Bicycle Wheel, 1913, and was curated by Alice Sharp.

It was designed for The View Tube, (at The Greenway London), within the Olympic Park redevelopment which was a a straight strip of land.
We decided wouldn’t it be great if we could design a low-tech transport device that went in roughly a straight line, but 4 people had to collaborate for the object to work. We then ran night time sessions for people to come and collaborate.

4H was made from Steel and re-engineered Uni-Cycles, and the entire piece was decorated using hand enamel painted wooden beads inspired by Cadere.

The piece went on to be exhibited in Barbican London at the Bicycle Film Festival.
